Adult Incontinence: Treatment, Prevention, and More
Incontinence refers to uncontrollable urine leakage. Up to a third of Americans have trouble controlling the urge to go, especially as they get older. There are five types of incontinence, and each manifests a little bit differently:. In children, incontinence often stems from a health issue such as a urinary tract infection, kidney problem, or defect in the urinary tract. Childhood incontinence often goes away on its own.
Our service is provided by a clinical nurse specialist, continence adviser, continence nurses, associate practitioner and healthcare support workers. We treat or support people in their home for the following :. For referrals relating to the provision of continence products we aim to offer appointments within 2 weeks or 1 week - if the referral is received as part of a discharge from hospital. For referrals requiring a clinic appointment these we aim to offer these within 6 weeks of the referral. Where products are required these can take weeks from confirmation of order.
